From a weekly shiur given by Dayan Raskin to all the
yunger chevra, here is a chazoro in my words.
Shiur Kezayis: There are three different sizes of matzos available, small, medium and large. Generaly the matzos that most of use e.g. kfar chabad and crown heights, the shiur is about 41% to be
yoitzeh kezeiyis min hatorah. This shiur is only applicable to
motzy matzoh, however for
korech you only need half of this (one third of the matzoh is more than enough).
Korech: It is interesting to note that meforshim say that the idea of a "sandwich" the way we do it nowdays is not the way it was done by
yetzias mitzrayim. There is a meforash that says that they wrapped it around the matzah.
Red Wine: It is an inyan to use red wine for the seder on Pesach, something to do with the blood (don't quote me). Therefore if you are wanting to use white wine for whatever reason, you should mix in some red wine to change the colour. It is important to note thought that
tzviyah (dying) is not allowed if you are doing it solely for the colour (not like tea where it is only an effect). It is therefore only possible to mix the red and white wine together if you put the red wine in first and then fill it up with white wine.
Reviis: The reviis of wine that you have to drink for each cup is from the gematria of "kos" - 26. I am not sure if this is milileter or ounces, sorry.
Leaning: When leaning to eat the matzah, you may not lean in the air. The reason why we lean is to be in a state of
cheirus, you must therefore lean onto something solid that is supporting you.
Paperware: There are two reasons why it might be better to use paperwasre over the whole yom tov and particularly by the seder. 1 - If cutlery were to fall on the floor, it is rendered chometz, and cannot be used till the next pesach. 2 - There is an
inyan to wash the plates after every use because of the
chshash that there maybe chometz gathering on your plates. It is therefore reccommended to use paperware that has a spiritual beauty!
Dyes: If you are going to use proper plates and cutlery, you should make an effort that they should be white without any dyes. The reason for this is because, when they used to make the dye for the utensils, they would burn the kernels to powder and put it into the dye, inorder that it should stick properly to the plate.
Yayin Kal: Yayin Kal is wine that has very little alcohol. It is prefferable to use a wine that has a significant amount of wine, however it is permissable though. Women can use this no problem.
Meat: It is interesting to note that if an animal is only fed chometz throughout his life, there is reason to believe that you may not eat its meat on Pesach. This is also the reason why we should buy our milk (if you drink milk on Pesach) before Pesach, for the reason being that chometz is
bottle beshishim before Pesach but not during.
Happy Pesach
